About the Item
This Cocoon Lamp is a real beauty in an exceptional good condition. A masterpiece of mid-century modern design, celebrated for its innovative use of materials and organic forms. Achille Gastiglioni in collaboration with his brother Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed the first Cocoon lamps with innovative use of materials and technique during the 1950s. Some other company's also produced Cocoon lamps inspired by Castiglioni and manufactured with the same materials and technique.
The lamp's defining feature is its unique diffuser, crafted from a spray-on polymer resin, which hardens into a cocoon-like structure. Originally an industrial material used for protective coatings, the Castiglioni brothers saw its potential for artistic applications, transforming it into a translucent membrane that diffuses light beautifully. The diffuser is supported by a steel wireframe, giving it both structure and a sculptural appearance.
The Cocoon Lamp is celebrated for its seamless blend of form and function. The organic, cloud-like shapes bring a sense of lightness and warmth to any space. When illuminated, the cocoon material emits a soft, diffused glow, making it perfect for creating a cozy ambiance in both modern and traditional interiors.
