Courtship Behavior Wee Pendant Lamp, Hand-Built Blue Ceramic by Yuko Nishikawa

Yuko Nishikawa is a Brooklyn-based design and ceramic art studio that aims to find the mystery and beauty in everyday lives, and values joy in communicating these discoveries through installations and collections of objects which include sculptural ceramic lighting, contemporary art objects, accessories, vases, and tableware. We also believe joy spreads. Through experiments and training we explore the emotional language objects convey, in relation to the space and the people who interact with them. Each product is individually handmade with a combination of techniques including wheel-throwing and hand-building with coils and slabs with various types of clay such as stoneware, earthenware, porcelain and cellulose clay. We mix our own glazes and fire ceramic pieces in our studio in Brooklyn. We work on design projects with the client as a team member to prototype and produce finishes and forms. The founder, Yuko Nishikawa, has a decade of experience in designing furniture and lighting products as a Lead Industrial Designer, in addition to prior years as Assistant Interior Designer in some of the prominent studios in NYC. She is a skilled wheel-thrower and a hand-builder. She also runs a monthly talk event, Salon at Forest, a gathering and conversation of creative minds.
