About the Item

Sold and priced individually. The ‘Dandelion’ sputnik chandelier by Gaetano Sciolari is a tribute to 1960s design innovation. Inspired by the delicate form of a dandelion in bloom, its 29 light sockets radiate outward in a captivating display. Crafted from gleaming chrome, the chandelier’s reflective surface catches the light, creating a luminous dance of shadow and shine. When illuminated, it fills the room with a warm, inviting glow. Angelo Gaetano Sciolari (1927–1994) was a celebrated Italian lighting designer whose sculptural forms and geometric designs became widely popular in the United States during the postwar years. While trained in architecture and briefly exploring filmmaking, Sciolari took over his family’s lighting company in 1949, expanding its reach significantly. His designs gained traction through partnerships with American lighting company Lightolier, whose star designer, Gerald Thurston, was notably influenced by Sciolari's work. As the in-house designer for Stilnovo in the 1950s, Sciolari created iconic fixtures that merged influences from Art Deco, Brutalism, and the Space Age. His striking chandeliers, pendants, and sconces featured bold geometric shapes, polished chrome tubes, brass accents, and opal glass spheres—elements that remain captivating in contemporary interiors. Condition: Great vintage condition. This chandelier has been professionally rewired for U.S. use. Accepts 29 E26 round chrome tip light bulbs. Additional Dimensions: Canopy: 5"Diameter x 3"H
