French Art Deco Pendant Chandelier by Degué, 1920s – Compiègne, France.
This exceptional French Art Deco pendant chandelier by Degué (Compiègne, France, 1920s) features a thick white frosted glass lampshade with a bold Art Deco geometric pattern, mounted on a nickel-plated metal frame. The chandelier measures 31" (79 cm) in height—can be shortened to suit your space—and has an outer diameter of 11" (28 cm). The shade bears the molded signature “Degué” (see photo). Delivered fully wired for your country (US, UK, EU, China, etc.) and compatible with LED bulbs.
About Degué
Degué was founded by the visionary David Guéron (1892–1950), whose innovative French art glass became a hallmark of the 1920s Art Deco movement. Following the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Guéron established his glassworks in Compiègne, producing both functional tableware and high-end decorative glass. By 1926, he focused exclusively on luxurious Art Deco lighting and decorative glass objects.
Guéron’s Degué glass chandeliers, lamps, and shades are known for their thick molded glass, stylized geometric motifs, and striking internal decoration. Collaborations with French ceramist Édouard Cazaux from 1928 produced some of the most refined and collectible models of the period. The firm’s work was sought after by elite American and French collectors, appearing in exhibitions and publications across Europe and the U.S.
The Degué glassworks was also commissioned for the legendary French ocean liner Normandie, creating 6,000 individually crafted glass panels with engraved diamond patterns and gilded eglomisé finishes—a testament to the technical mastery and luxury associated with the brand. The factory ceased operations in 1936, officially closing in 1939. Today, Degué chandeliers remain rare, highly collectible examples of 1920s French Art Deco lighting.
