About the Item
Charming orientalist chandelier with six-lights, in gilded bronze and polychrome cloisonné enamel attr. to E. Cornu. In the center, it is composed of an enameled bowl decorated with palmettes and stylized flowers, extended by a ‘ruby” red glass verrine. The whole is supported by three articulated rods alternating with a medallion engraved with interlacing patterns.
The ceiling light with enameled petals is composed of three chains ending in gilded bronze spheres.
Biography :
The sculptor Eugène Cornu (1827-1899), located at 29 rue Popincourt in Paris, initially worked as designer and then director for the renowned company Tahan (1813-1892), before working from 1858 onwards, in close collaboration with the Compagnie des Marbres Onyx d’Algérie, directed by Gustave Viot (1828 – 1897), and created by Alphonse Pallu (1808-1880) on June 14, 1858.
