About the Item
An extraordinary mid-century pendant lamp, produced by the renowned Swedish manufacturer Einar Bäckströms Metallvarufabrik in the 1950s. It features three curved brass arms holding conical metal shades, perforated with a decorative star pattern. The lamp also has a dome-shaped brass canopy at the ceiling and a wooden handle at the bottom. The patented rise and fall mechanism, model 10-1, produced by Haglund
Söner, makes the fixture easily adjustable in height. Diameter 42 cm, height adjustable between 60-150 cm.
The Swedish manufacturer Einar Bäckströms Metallvarufabrik was founded in the town of Malmö in 1918 and soon became a major producer of electric lighting fixtures. The company was founded by brothers Einar and Sune Bäckström, both trained chasers. In the 1930s, Einar Bäckström became an official producer of Otto Müller’s Sistrah fixture. Like most Swedish lighting manufacturers, Einar Bäckström was dissolved in the 1970s.
