About the Item
A Scandinavian mid-century pendant lamp model T-32, designed by Eje Ahlgren and produced by renowned Swedish manufacturer Bergbom
Co in the 1950s. This unusual piece showcases the refined craftsmanship typical of the era, with a tapered body in solid teak. The bold, disc-shaped upper shade is fashioned from painted metal, finished in a vivid orange on the upper side that provides a vibrant contrast to the natural wood. The stepped diffuser is constructed from fine metal strings wrapped in textile, creating a sculptural layered effect that softens the light beautifully while adding depth and visual interest. Complete with its original ceiling canopy in matching teak veneer, the lamp retains its authentic mid-century character.
The company Bergbom
Co was established in 1940 by the Swedish chocolate magnate Efraim Ljung, initially focusing on the production of ice cream machines. However, their manufacturing scope quickly expanded to include various lighting fixtures. Efraim Ljung was already deeply engaged in the Swedish design scene, as he was the founder of the renowned furniture manufacturer DUX and a prominent figure in the sales organization Bra Bohag. As a result, Bergboms lamps began making appearances in catalogs and magazines, often featured alongside iconic furniture pieces designed by Sweden's top designers. Today, Bergboms is perhaps best recognized for their version of the Greta Magnusson Grossman Grasshopper floor lamp.
