'Parachute' ceiling lamp, model '6022', designed by Erik Gunnar Asplund in the 1920s. Produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden, 1958-59. Green-lacquered metal, shade in matte opal glass. Rewired.

Height: 115 cm / 45.28 in
Diameter: 47 cm / 18.5 in
Rare to come to market, this exceptional lamp was designed by Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940) in the 1920s, and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in 1958-59. Designed for Gunnar Asplund’s music room at the Workshop exhibition in 1920 at Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm, the lamp entered Böhlmark’s collection in 1922 and remained there until production was taken over by Ateljé Lyktan in 1965.
Suspended by three green-lacquered steel chains, its large matte opal glass shade evokes the form of a parachute, hence its name. A remarkable example of Asplund’s design sensibility, this lamp is not only a striking piece of 20th-century Swedish craftsmanship but also a coveted collector’s item.
