About the Item
These robust industrial pendant lights were salvaged from a factory in Bulgaria and date from the 1970s, during the height of the country’s socialist-era industrial production. Manufactured by Svetlina Sliven (Светлина Сливен)—Bulgaria’s principal state-run lighting company—these fixtures were engineered for durability and long-term service in demanding industrial environments.
Each pendant is constructed from polished cast aluminium with a distinctive three-part enclosure, a hallmark of Svetlina’s mid-century industrial design. The upper section includes the original integrated hanging hook, while the central ring features a circle of raised bolt lugs that secure the heavy glass dome beneath. The design allows the top component to be easily unlocked and removed for re-lamping or maintenance—an elegant piece of functional engineering.
The original thick, moulded Cyrillic-marked glass diffuser sits between the lower two sections of the housing, offering a soft refracted glow when lit. The surface of the aluminium retains its authentic workshop patina, adding character and giving each fixture a unique industrial identity.
Sympathetically restored and rewired for contemporary interiors, these pendants bring an authentic Eastern Bloc industrial aesthetic to modern spaces. Ideal for kitchens, dining areas, studios, lofts, retail environments, or anywhere that benefits from architectural, utilitarian design.
