About the Item

An unusual and delicate antique French chandelier in the Baguès style, composed of gilt bronze and rock crystal. The chandelier is arranged with a central stem from which radiate eight scrolling candle branches. Each branch terminates in a gilt bronze drip pan, further adorned with clear faceted crystal studs, and supports a candle-form light. Rock crystal prisms of varying shapes, including elongated teardrops, faceted drops, and cut pendants, are suspended throughout the frame, creating a layered arrangement of hanging elements. Floral rosettes carved from crystal are mounted at intervals along the frame, complementing the larger cut rock crystal finials and ball pendant beneath. The structure incorporates a combination of scrolling gilt bronze arms, pierced drip pans, and decorative mounts. The arms are decorated with a series of rock crystal flowers, placed between the drops to emphasize the arrangement. The gilt bronze surfaces are further ornamented with applied crystal studs set around the circumference of each bobeche. At the center, a tiered crystal stem, formed with cut and faceted elements, supports the chandelier’s branching arms and descending prisms. The lower section culminates in a spherical rock crystal pendant. This chandelier follows the design tradition established by Maison Baguès, a Parisian workshop renowned for its gilt bronze and rock crystal lighting fixtures during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Baguès was known for combining hand-chiseled bronze frames with natural rock crystal, resulting in highly decorative yet structurally refined lighting.
