About the Item

A fine antique French Charles X style gilt bronze and white opaline chandelier. The chandelier is suspended by six decorative gilt bronze chains descending from a circular corona, detailed with applied foliate ornaments and acanthus finials. The corona incorporates a white opaline bowl painted with floral garlands in naturalistic colors, further accented with a central gilt bronze pinecone drop. The chains attach to a central white opaline globe, also hand-painted with multicolored flowers, including tulips, daisies, and pansies, enclosed within a chased gilt bronze band. Six scrolling gilt bronze candle arms extend from the central ring, each terminating in circular drip pans with faux candle-form lights. The arms are ornamented with rosettes and foliate details, complementing the decorative mounts throughout the chandelier. The lower portion of the globe is finished with a gilt bronze pinecone finial, repeating the motif seen at the corona, while the opaline surface continues with vivid floral decoration across its rounded form. The chandelier reflects the Charles X style, known for the use of bright gilt bronze paired with painted opaline glass. During this period, French workshops produced lighting fixtures that combined porcelain-like white opaline with richly chased bronze mounts.
