About the Item

A spectacular antique French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Cut Rock Crystal Chandelier. The chandelier is composed of a circular gilt bronze frame supporting eight candle-form lights arranged evenly around the perimeter. Each light is fitted with a cylindrical candle sleeve and a flame-shaped glass finial at the top. Curved bronze arms extend outward and upward from the frame, each decorated with applied crystal rosettes and hung with cut rock crystal pendants in teardrop, faceted, and hexagonal forms. The underside of the chandelier contains additional suspended prisms, including a spherical crystal drop at the lowest point. The overall structure is perfectly balanced by a central baluster-shaped stem from which further branches and crystal elements radiate. This chandelier is identified as a French Louis XVI-style gilt bronze and cut rock crystal example. It is designed in a traditional multi-arm form with applied decorative glass elements characteristic of this type. The presence of gilt bronze mounts and the use of cut rock crystal in both faceted and smooth pendant forms align with documented examples of French lighting fixtures of a similar style.
