About the Item

A fine antique French Louis XVI style gilt and crystal chandelier. This chandelier is arranged in a tent-and-bag form, with faceted crystal bead chains descending from a gilt bronze corona to a circular frame. Eight gilt bronze arms extend outward in a balanced configuration, each supporting a glass bobeche and electrified candle-form light. The arms are further decorated with strands of faceted crystal beads, while pendant prisms and cut rosettes are suspended along the frame. The lower section is finished with a circular basket of crystal drops and a cluster of elongated pendants. The chandelier is French in origin and designed in the Louis XVI style, characterized by symmetrical form and the use of gilt bronze combined with abundant crystal. The structure features gilt bronze flower-head mounts at the junctions of the bead chains, a typical element in French production. Originally intended for candles, the piece has been adapted for electricity, as evidenced by the candle-form sockets. Louis XVI style chandeliers of this type were produced by Parisian workshops, incorporating neoclassical design elements with rich crystal ornament.
