About the Item
French Art Nouveau Pâte de Verre Three-Light Pendant Light by G.V. de Croismare, Muller Frères, 1920s.
This impressive French Art Nouveau pendant light was made in the 1920s by G.V. de Croismare of Muller Frères Lunéville. The focal point is the multicolored Pâte de Verre glass shade in soft white, violet-brown, and golden yellow hues, giving the bowl a warm, natural feel.
The glass is hung from a rare and intricately designed bronze fixture, shaped like chestnut leaves and fruit – a distinctive and eye-catching motif that reflects the naturalistic style of the Art Nouveau era. The elaborate bronze work makes this pendant highly special and collectible.
The glass bowl was created using the Pâte de Verre technique, a challenging process involving melting glass powders and dyes in refractory molds. This method, revived by leading French glass artists during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, produces unique multicolored effects and gentle color transitions. Each piece is one of a kind due to the complexity of the process.
History note:
In 1919, Muller Frères founded Les Grandes Verreries et Cristalleries de Croismare. Glass made in Croismare bears the signature “G.V. de Croismare.” Their work ranks among the finest examples of French decorative glass from the early 20th century.
