About the Item

French Beaux-Arts Brass and Bronze Chandelier, Late 19th Century This Grand French Beaux-Arts chandelier, dating to the late 19th century, is a striking testament to the opulence of the Belle Époque. Measuring 90 cm high by 70 cm wide and deep, its scale and finely executed details make it a commanding centerpiece for any distinguished interior. The chandelier is crafted in a combination of brass and bronze, masterfully cast and finished with exquisite decorative elements. Its circular body is enriched with laurel swags, acanthus leaves, classical scrolls, and flame finials, embodying the academic classicism of the Beaux-Arts style. Twelve bold scrolling arms project around the perimeter, each fitted with bell-shaped brass lamp holders and ornate foliate bobeches. Suspended from tall rods, the frame is further adorned with festooned garlands, giving a sense of rhythm and ceremonial grandeur. Beneath, the chandelier retains its original frosted and etched glass bowl, decorated with stylized star and floral motifs. This glass diffuser softens the light, offering a refined contrast to the warm patina of the brass and bronze surfaces. Pieces of this scale and workmanship were created for prestigious interiors—grand hôtels particuliers, civic salons, or theaters—reflecting the rich decorative traditions of late 19th-century France. With its original patina intact and electrification easily adaptable to modern standards, this chandelier represents not just illumination, but a statement of architectural artistry and timeless elegance.
