Monumental French Empire Revival Chandelier with Alabaster Bowl, Patinated and Gilt Bronze, Early 20th Century
An impressive Empire style chandelier, dating from the early 20th century, richly decorated with neoclassical details. The centerpiece is a large warm-toned alabaster bowl that beautifully diffuses the light. Surrounding the chandelier are eight gilt bronze arms, each with a female head motif and ornate acanthus leaves, holding E14 sockets.
Above the bowl rise finely cast patinated bronze figures of winged Victories (Nike), each holding up a laurel wreath, symbolizing triumph and glory. Additional details include gilt bronze foliage, shell ornaments and laurel motifs, emphasizing the classical Empire aesthetic.
The chandelier is suspended by a strong chain and retains its original bronze ceiling canopy. With its scale, weight and detailed craftsmanship, this piece makes a statement in any interior, whether classical, neoclassical or Hollywood Regency inspired.
