ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers and a key figure in postwar Scandinavian design. Trained as an architect and cabinetmaker, Jakobsson began his career working for Carl Malmsten and General Motors’ design department before founding Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd in 1951.
His approach to lighting was deeply rooted in craftsmanship and atmosphere. Rather than emphasizing brightness, Jakobsson focused on how light interacts with materials — using wood, brass, glass, and textiles to create warmth and softness. His signature fringe lamps, along with his sculptural brass and glass pendants, became highly sought-after for their poetic handling of light. Today, Jakobsson’s work stands as an enduring expression of Swedish modernism: functional, human, and quietly elegant.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and furniture designer, who ran his own company from 1951. Jakobsson was especially famous for his lighting designs, which often had a softly glowing light and organic shape. His designs were inspired by great, modern Scandinavian designers such as the Finnish icon Alvar Aalto and Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen.
