A sculptural German Fat Lava pendant from the 1970s, combining expressive ceramic glazing with warm ambient light and classic Mid-Century proportions.
This striking German Mid-Century Modern pendant light, dating to the circa 1970s, exemplifies the iconic Fat Lava ceramic movement. The generously proportioned ceramic shade features a richly textured glaze with flowing brown, ochre, and cream tones, creating depth and organic variation characteristic of West German studio ceramics of the period.
The shade is punctuated with circular cut-outs, allowing light to escape softly to the sides while maintaining a warm, atmospheric downward glow. When illuminated, the glazed surface comes alive with subtle tonal shifts and reflections, making the piece both functional and sculptural.
The pendant is suspended from a brass chain and metal fittings, providing a refined contrast to the expressive ceramic body and grounding the design in classic Mid-Century Modern aesthetics.
