About the Item
Richard Woods approaches artisanal culture with humour in Glass and Wood, conflating the ligneous and the vitreous. Printmaking, which traditionally transforms wood into word, is here instead applied to glass – which now ‘reads’ as wood. This transfiguration joke recalls craftsmanship heritage where the use of a block to transfer imprints in negative relief is known to the worlds of both print- and glass-making.
