About the Item
A fine and highly decorative alabaster pendant light from the early 1900s.
With early 20th century lighting as one of our specialities, finding highly attractive antique fixtures in very good condition always makes our day. This antique pendant has one of the most beautiful alabaster shades you ever saw, because besides the striking black vein 'down one side' there also are numerous near-translucent veins and patches. Combined with the calm and rounded design these marvelous veins and patches make this handcrafted antique fixture truly marvelous.
Equally eye-catching are the gilt bronze suspension mounts, cast in the form of stylised sea creatures with scrolling tails and acanthus leaf details. These sculptural arms not only support the bowl but also add a touch of fantasy and refinement typical of early 20th century French design.
The chandelier hangs from its original gilt bronze ceiling plate with three decorative chains, making height adjustment straightforward. Despite its age, the alabaster shade retains a wonderful polished surface with very few signs of wear, a rarity for a piece of this kind.
This chandelier is ideal for an entrance hall, bedroom, or any smaller space that deserves a stylish upgrade. It has been rewired to modern safety standards and is ready for immediate use.
