About the Item
Like a sequence of grapes on a stem, nature creates beauty through
variation within repetition. Grappa uses two base elements to
allow for the creation of alternating extrapolations. The frosted
finish applied to the glass diffuses the light source’s internal glow.
Grappa by Claesson Koivisto Rune pays tribute to the humble
grape’s sequential symmetries when growing on the vine with
its chalky and pearlescent flesh. Much like these delicately
arranged orbs suspended from their stalks, Grappa’s blown glass
forms present a surprising number of careful manoeuvres in their
creation. First, molten glass is extracted from a superheated oven
before being applied to the end of a blowing rod – a long hollow
metal tube via which a glassblower introduces air from their lungs
into the molten mass.
