About the Item

Herzog de Meuron “Jingzi” Pendant Light for Belux, Switzerland, 2005 Designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, the Jingzi pendant is one of the most iconic contemporary lighting designs of the early 21st century. Originally conceived for the Café Kunsthalle in Munich, this rare piece has since become highly sought-after by collectors, interior designers, and museums. Its elongated, organic drop form is crafted from smooth, flexible silicone, with all electrical components elegantly housed within the soft, tactile “skin.” When illuminated, the silicone diffuses the light into a warm, atmospheric glow, subtly transforming the perception of its surroundings. The design invites both visual and tactile engagement, blurring the lines between art, architecture, and functional lighting. Exhibited: Art Institute of Chicago, Rethinking Typologies: Architecture and Design from the Permanent Collection, March 3 – July 29, 2012. Designer: Herzog de Meuron Manufacturer: Belux, Switzerland Year: 2005 Material: Silicone Dimensions: Diameter 30 cm (11.8"), height of drop element 48 cm (18.9"), total length 270 cm (106.3") Condition: Excellent, minimal signs of age, fully functional A rare, museum-exhibited design object that seamlessly merges sculptural form with atmospheric light.

Rare Swiss Design Jingzi Ceiling Lamps, Herzog De Meuron, for Belux, 2000s
By Herzog de Meuron
Located in Renens, CH
The Jingzi lamp (produced by Belux Switzerland) draws its inspiration from the organic shape of a suspended droplet and emerged from the design process for the lighting and hanging plants at the Kunsthalle Café in Fünf Höfe (Five Courtyards) located in Munich City Centre. The Jingzi lamps are made of a raw silicone material, featuring trapped air bubbles that diffuse a soft and ambient light. Each silicone lamp sleeve is meticulously handcrafted, resulting in a unique piece. Since the lamps are made of silicon, they feel rubbery to the touch and can be squeezed and grabbed.
