About the Item

A large and superb Hollywood Regency antique French gilt bronze and crystal chandelier of ball form. The chandelier is structured around a central cut crystal sphere, deeply faceted in a diamond pattern to refract light across its surface. Four gilt bronze swan-form arms project outward from the orb, each supporting crystal bobeches fitted with candle-form lights. The swans are sculpted with extended wings and elongated necks, their heads turned outward to balance the design. A gilt finial is suspended from the base of the crystal sphere, completing the lower section of the structure. The chandelier is suspended by multiple decorative gilt bronze chains attached to a pierced corona at the upper register. The corona is cast in the form of radiating palmettes, finely detailed with floral and foliate motifs. Additional pierced gilt bronze mounts embellish the body of the chandelier, including flame finials and ornamental leafy devices placed between the swan arms. Each chain link is worked with consistent detail, contributing to the structural and visual rhythm of the piece. The use of gilt bronze combined with faceted crystal reflects the high-quality production associated with French lighting design of this type.
