About the Item

A stunning and increasingly rare example of René Lalique's iconic "Soleil" (Sun) chandelier, Model No. 2466, designed on January 26, 1926. This exceptional pendant features molded opalescent glass with the model's signature yellow patina, creating a warm, sun-like radiance when illuminated. The circular form showcases Lalique's masterful molding technique, with radiating patterns emanating from the center that capture and diffuse light with remarkable luminosity. Suspended from four original hanging cords with the original glass canopy. Signed: Lalique, France The "Soleil" chandelier holds particular significance in Lalique's oeuvre. Appearing in both the 1928 and 1932 Lalique catalogs before being discontinued, this model had a limited production window of only six years. The design embodies the Art Deco fascination with celestial motifs and the sun's life-giving energy—themes that resonated deeply with the optimistic spirit of the era. The quality of the yellow patina, integrity of the original glass canopy and hanging hardware, and absence of chips or repairs are critical factors in valuation. This example exhibits the warm, golden opalescence that distinguished Lalique's finest work—a quality achieved through proprietary techniques that the master carefully guarded. As with all pre-war Lalique lighting, each surviving "Soleil" chandelier represents an irreplaceable artifact of French Art Deco craftsmanship, created during Lalique's lifetime under his direct supervision at the Wingen-sur-Moder glassworks.
