An Akari model “35N” by Isamu Noguchi. This sculptural light construction features an original finish with washi and bamboo accents, tied together with black metal. Originally handcrafted piece was created by Ozeki Company in Gifu, Japan. The model showcases an authentic, unique red logo from the manufacturer, reminiscent of the Moon and Sun. Please note from the seller: the model is very delicate. For safer transportation, the lamp will be sent in a folded state.

In 1951 Isamu Noguchi visited the town of Gifu, Japan, known for its manufacture of lanterns and umbrellas from mulberry bark paper and bamboo. Noguchi designed the first of his lamps that would be produced by the traditional Gifu methods of construction. He called these works Akari, a term meaning light as illumination, but also implying the idea of weightlessness.
