About the Item
This elegant 19th-century chandelier is a fine example of European decorative lighting, preserved in the private collection of architect Gianantonio Malacrida. Made of finely chiseled and gilded bronze, the object displays a rich and cultured ornamental style, reminiscent of late Baroque taste with Empire influences, evident in the articulated structure of the arms, the plant motifs, and the overall architectural balance.
The slender and harmonious central shaft supports numerous curved arms designed to hold candles. A particularly refined element is the central decoration in green glass paste molded into leaves, suspended below the main body of the chandelier, where we also note 5-pointed star engravings. This chromatic intervention introduces a naturalistic and luminous note, creating a refined dialogue between the solidity of the gilded metal and the lightness of the glass.
The entire structure is embellished with a cascade of faceted crystal pendants, prismatic and teardrop-shaped, applied with great craftsmanship. These elements amplify the diffusion of light and testify to the high quality of workmanship typical of the finest pieces intended for aristocratic or upper-middle-class interiors in the 19th century.
Collected and preserved by Gianantonio Malacrida as part of his aesthetic and cultural universe, this chandelier reflects his deep interest in the history of applied arts, ornamentation, and the narrative value of objects. It is not only a functional element but also an authentic luminous sculpture, capable of dialoguing with the architectural space and historical memory.
Provenance: From the private collection of Gianantonio Malacrida. Not authored by him, but preserved in his home and studio as part of his documented aesthetic world.
