About the Artist and Historical Context
Jean Noverdy, a talented student of Mr. Dubret, operated his glassworks in Dijon at 17 Place Bossuet. In the 1920s, Noverdy specialized in art glass lighting, crafting lamps with double-layered glass shades filled with pulverized colored enamels to achieve a distinctive marbled effect. His technique was similar to that of prominent glassmakers like Daum Frères, André Delatte, and Muller Frères.
Noverdy also produced molded glass vases and shades, as well as acid-etched pieces inspired by the School of Nancy style. Between 1926 and 1928, he exhibited his work at the prestigious Salon de la Société des Artistes Français in Paris, cementing his reputation in the Art Deco movement.
