About the Item

Magnificent antique Empire crystal and gilt iron chandelier, featuring two tiers supporting eight arms and hand-carved giltwood baluster stem, fully hand-made in the late 18th century of Italian origin, coming from an antiquarian in Lucca, Tuscany. Compared to the classical Empire crystal patterns of Tuscan-Ligurian area, this chandelier from Lucca features very original elements. The carved and giltwood half baluster stem adorned with pastiglia ornaments, the double gilt iron rings joined by rosette, the geometrical pastiglia decorations mounted on the upper crown and the wrought gilt iron arms, forged and ending with hand- made threads, all this peculiar elements distinguish our unique 18th century Italian chandelier. The eight arms are harmoniously arranged on two tiers and they are topped by palmetta decorations . The upper iron crown is also enriched with curved and embossed acanthus leaves, all of these Empire taste decorations are handmade in repousse´ and gilded metal plate. This exquisite elegant Italian chandelier comes from an antiquarian in Lucca. This superlative masterpiece of art, born for candles lighting at the end of 1700, thanks to its evergreen and classical design, can be placed in contemporary luxury interiors. Good age related condition, minor losses and signs of wear but all original antique crystal elements, original gilding. The eight turned giltwood bobeiches have a later gilding. Size in cm: 125 h. by 100 d. Weights: 15 kg Height of 125 centimeters does not include any chain, size relative to chandelier’s structure only. 8 lights ending with 8E14 light bulbs. Working wiring for European standard, wiring dates back to fifty years circa. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago requires a governative license for export called Belle Arti. The shipping may require additional 2-3 handling weeks to require and get the license according to the final destination of the artwork. Shipping information: for a safe packaging, item must be folded with paper first, than rolled with plastic bubble wrap, hanged on a hook within a tailor-made fumigated wooden crate full of packing peanuts, chips.
