About the Item

Large Mid-Century Modern bell shape cocoon pendant in the style of Achille Castiglioni, designed by Friedel Wauer for Goldkant Leuchten and manufactured in Germany during the 1960s. Supported by adjustable height wire rope. It takes a single E27/E26 large sized screw base bulb up to 100 watts, provinding a warm and pleasant light. LED bulbs can also be used. In good vintage condition, no damages, rewired. Measures: Diameter: 20" / 50 cm Height of the bell shade: 16.50" / 42 cm Actual height: 50" (16.5" bell shade + 33.5" rope), adjustable height via shortening the wire rope 127 cm (42 cm + 85 cm rope). Canopy: Diameter 4.35" / Height 1" (11 cm x 2.5 cm) About Goldkant: "Goldkant Leuchten" company was founded right after World War II in 1946. The first name of the company was Cocoon-Leuchten International. Fritz “Friedel” Wauer who is credited by FLOS for devising the technology of spraying the material onto iron frames, was inspired by the “self-wrapping” of a silk worm, hence the naming “cocoon”. In the late 50’s Arturo Eisenkeil from Merano, today in Marling, brought the technique to Italy and together with Dino Gavina, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Sergio Biliotti, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Ignazio Gardella, to name the most important designers, the FLOS company was born.
