About the Item

Large Late 1700s 18-Light Empire Chandelier in Crystal and Gilt Brass, in perfect condition. A rare and antique Italian salon chandelier with a light balloon-like structure made of iron and gilded brass, with an elegant vertical, heightwise development on several planes, making it an extremely airy and light architectural element that is at the same time precious, thanks to the light effects it manages to create with festoons and faceted crystal pendants. The dominant tone is always set by the gold of the six embossed brass crowns, which is counterpointed by the brilliant vibrancy of the crystals. It is fitted with six circular crowns decorated with clear shaped crystals and connected by crystal chains and pendants. The crowns are embossed with bacellations, ovoli within pearl profiles, while the crown with the largest diameter is embossed with volutes, acanthus leaves and floral elements; from these median crowns branch eighteen double volute candle-holder arms, made of forged and gilded iron, arranged in two tiers 12 + 6 high and also decorated with phytomorphic motifs. The chandelier ends with a truly original final element, a turquoise-colored lactide glass disc is enclosed within the last lower crown, visible only from below and shielded by the final crystal sphere surrounded by the prism-shaped pendants. Originally, being the main source of lighting in the halls, the arrangement in multiple orders of candles ensured a more even spread of light. This wonderful antique Italian chandelier comes from the large living room of a villa in Emilia, dates from the late 18th century and is in excellent condition ready to hang, restored by our atelier and re-elected. The electrical system is new, works with 18 E14 bulbs, originally lit with candles. Chain and ceiling cup are missing but can be customized. For the export from Italy of an art object that is more than 50 years old, a government export license called BELLE ARTI must be applied for. the issuance of such a license takes about 2 to 3 weeks, to be added to the order processing time.
