Exceptional large linear chandelier by the 1960s French lighting designer Maison Arlus (Arts et Lustre) featuring four rectangular off-white wavy and textured fiberglass light shades with a black Perspex accent, placed on a brass cross shaped structure, the narrow, angular form would perfectly suit a hallway or rectangular space. The same chandelier is featured in the Madmen meeting room. It emits a beautiful, nuanced light. It takes eight light bulbs, providing a high degree of illumination. Dimensions H 22.84 in. x W 43.31 in. x D 17.72 in. H 58 cm x W 110 cm x D 45 cm Eight candelabra size bulbs, up to 60 watts each, rewired. The Paris based firm Arlus was one of the major Mid-Century Modern French lighting designer during the 1950s. Based in Paris, Arlus models were rooted in the French Art Deco tradition on the one hand and mixed element of truly Parisian neoclassical chic (think Hermes, Chanel and Cartier) as shown in the details through the combination of colours, mostly black and gold with polished and semi transparent mirror finish or Avant Garde Sputnik alike style and show similarities with designs of Italian counterparts like Stilnovo and Arredoluce or the designs of Gio Ponti. This light is perfectly suited for large dining tables with chairs or over a coffee table and sofa but also over an office desk, bar or bed. The stylish elegance suits many decor and designs, from midcentury to Hollywood Regency and combine very well with the work designers like Gio Ponti, Stilnovo and Angelo Lelli.
