About the Item
A beautiful and large Austrian modernist brass chandelier, designed and manufactured by Rupert Nikoll, Vienna, Austria, in the 1950s. This impressive piece, with its 27-inch diameter, features elegantly curved white acrylic leaves arranged in a circular pattern around the fixture. Between the leaves are gracefully arched brass rods, each topped with a faceted round crystal ball. A round acrylic diffuser disc is mounted at the bottom and secured with a decorative large brass knob. The chandelier offers seven light sources, creating a beautifully soft and pleasant illumination. It remains in very good vintage condition, showing only minor patina on the brass.
Technical Details: The chandelier features seven light sources — six on the upper section providing an ambient uplight, and one below the diffuser, which is originally equipped with a circular fluorescent tube. This has been replaced with a modern LED ring light that emits a warm, inviting glow (3000K) . All bulbs are standard and easily available. The upper and lower sections can also be switched separately, provided that a suitable light switch is installed on the wall. Currently, the fixture is wired for European standards (E27). We are pleased to offer rewiring for your regional standard (e.g. E26 for the US) free of charge, and will include the matching LED tube with your order. The current overall drop height is 22 inches, and we are happy to adjust the suspension length — longer or shorter — at no additional cost.

Rupert Nikoll
The Rupert Nikoll lighting company’s biggest claim to glory came from producing work by the skilled Austrian jeweler and lighting designer Emil Stejnar. He designed several lighting and mirror pieces for the Austrian company. Stejnar had a penchant for symmetrical, rounded forms, often emulating starbursts or floral blossoms in his designs.
Very little information is recorded about the Rupert Nikoll lighting company or its namesake. The company was established in Vienna, Austria, in 1908, and later opened a branch in Munich, Germany. In 1966, its Vienna factory was relocated to Ober-Grafendorf, Austria, about 40 miles away. The company went out of business in 1986, closing the doors of all of its factories.
Decades later, Rupert Nikoll chandeliers and floor lamps still stand the test of time. One of Rupert Nikoll’s most famous designs is the Sputnik pendant lamp, created in the 1960s by Stejnar. With several lighted spokes extending out in every direction, forming a shape similar to a dandelion puff, the Sputnik pendant lamp earned the nickname “Pusteblume,” or “Dandelion” in English. Many imitators have replicated the Sputnik design, but the originals are highly valued by collectors and interior designers. The company is also celebrated for its Sumatra floor lamp, crafted from brass and featuring a curved spine and bipodal base.
