About the Item
Rare late 19th-century carved wooden Lüsterweibchen chandelier with four lights and original polychrome finish.
A unique and charming late 19th-century carved wooden chandelier — a fine example of a Lüsterweibchen.
Beautifully hand-carved from linden wood and richly polychromed, this smaller-scale chandelier displays exceptional craftsmanship by a master carver and painter. The sculpture retains its original paint and gilding with a gentle patina that enhances its authenticity and historic character.
Entirely made of wood — including the stylized antlers — this Lüsterweibchen represents an outstanding example of traditional German folk art. According to the previous owner, it originated from a Bavarian manor house.
Despite its compact dimensions, the piece creates a strong visual impact and can be easily installed in rooms with lower ceilings. Its expressive female figure, symbolic heraldic shield, and sculptural detail make it a rare and captivating decorative statement.
The chandelier hangs from a chain suspension with a brass and metal canopy, and features four E14 light sockets mounted on the carved wooden antlers.
A remarkable collector’s piece and an authentic reminder of 19th-century Central European craftsmanship.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, traces of original polychromy, and patina.
