About the Item

A clear, vintage Mid-Century modern Italian Sputnik chandelier, pendant made of hand blown Murano glass in style of Barovier Toso, in good condition. Each glass rays are halted by the round chrome base, frame. The ceiling light, lamp is composed with a twenty four light socket. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1940 - 1950, Murano, Italy. Fixture: 50" H x 53.25" diameter Glass Rays: 23" H Ercole Barovier was an Italian entrepreneur and designer born in 1889, in Murano, Italy and passed away in 1974. Barovier went to study in Venice to become a doctor, but never finished his studies. After World War I, in 1920, he decided to work with his father, proving to have an incredible talent in glass making. In 1929, he discovered the Primavera technique, a transparent and crackled glass. In 1936, Barovier took over the company. Barovier Toso is an Italian company, founded in 1225, in Murano, Italy. The company is one of the oldest family businesses in the world, originally founded as Barovier. In 1936, the merged with the Toso family’s Fratelli Toso Glassworks. The company is specialized in Venetian glass and lighting.
