About the Item
This suspension is a bit of history of glass making. It's the enfancy of Lino Tagliapietra, made when he was at Effetre International. The shape is known as Magia and was produced in the 1980s.
The piece shows a central body in white opaline cased inside with amber, sorrounded by a flap incalmo, with 80 filigree canes twised (mena, in Muranese glassmaking vocabulary). Such a fine work and details with no flaws.
It's not just a beatiful fixture, it is a collectors piece. The piece is not done -alla prima- where the shape is hand opened over a first blown. There is first an incalmo process of two vases, one opaline cased amber and one ritorto filgree, than joined together, passed at puntello to avoid having a mass of glass at the tip, and opened to 63 cms, above 25in. No one can do this piece nowadays.
Interesting the casing of amber. The other one I had a few years ago was all white. This instead has a new feature. White unlit it keeps the beautiful contrast inbetween the deep amethyst of the filigree and the central body. When lit the amber inside gives a warm color and a honey appearance.
A masterpiece. Thanks to Lele who instructed me on how to recognize the Tagliapietra pieces, there are similar ones from Paolo Crepax, at that time a competitor (and he is a very good maestro as well), and also the ones made ad Effetre after Lino left.
I have seen many pieces like this but nothing can even compare to the beauty and the skill used to make a gorgeous fixture like this.
