This striking mid-century bamboo pendant chandelier by renowned French designer Louis Sognot is a rare example of 1950s organic modernism. Handcrafted in France, the piece features a gently flared bamboo frame with a fabric diffuser that casts a warm, ambient glow—perfect for dining rooms, living spaces, or entryways seeking natural texture and sculptural presence.
Sognot’s signature approach to design—where modernist principles meet comfort and craftsmanship—is evident in this light fixture’s elegant simplicity and tactile materials. About the Designer
Louis Sognot (1892–1970) was a prominent French decorator and designer who helped shape the trajectory of Art Deco, Cubism, and the Modern Movement in France. A graduate of École Bernard Palissy, Sognot trained in cabinetmaking and later gained experience outfitting ocean liners before co-leading the Primavera workshop at the Grands Magasins du Printemps—an institution key to the Art Deco movement.
Sognot’s work evolved from strict Functionalism toward a softer, more human-centric approach to design. His use of natural materials, combined with rigorous formal experimentation, has made his lighting and furniture highly sought after by collectors of mid-century French design.
