About the Item

This spectacular so called ‘Cassiopé’ chandelier, designed by Max Sauze for the Max Sauze Studio in France in 1969, is a masterpiece of mid-century modern lighting design. Originally created for the Congress Center in Aix-en-Provence, the “Cassiopé” chandelier embodies both elegance and innovation. Among the commercially produced models, this example is the largest size, making it an impressive and striking piece. Handcrafted with a metal wire frame and layered with intricately arranged aluminum strips, the chandelier creates a stunning play of light and shadow. When illuminated, it casts a captivating curtain of light across walls, adding depth and warmth to any space. In excellent original condition, this chandelier is a timeless work of art, seamlessly blending functionality with artistic brilliance. The piece would be a standout addition to any contemporary modern home or interior, serving as both a lighting solution and a focal point that sparks conversation and admiration. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the USA. Max Sauze (born 1933 in Algiers, Algeria) is a celebrated French-Algerian designer renowned for his constellation-inspired lighting designs. He studied at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts d’Alger (1953–1956) and the École Camondo in Paris (1956–1959). After completing his studies, Sauze began producing his own designs by hand in his workshop. In 1963, he relocated to Provence, France, where his creative legacy continues, with his son still producing some of his iconic designs. Beyond lighting, Sauze’s oeuvre includes furniture, sculptures, and ceramics, making him a versatile and influential figure in 20th-century design. This chandelier is not only a lighting fixture but a piece of history, showcasing the ingenuity and artistic vision of Max Sauze.
