About the Item

An elegant pair of ceiling lamps in white opaline glass made in Finland in the 1950s. This very minimal design fits easily into any interior. As with a lot of Scandinavian design the beauty of these lamps stems from the simplicity. Nothing extra, only what is necessary, and once again, less is more. This is not a perfect pair, as according to the markings in the light bases they are from different manufacturers (One by PSO and the other by Sähköliike Oy). However, once on the ceiling and in use, they are indistinguishable from each other. Back when these lamps were still commercially sold, they were interchangeable as they had almost universal standard measurements, that's why these lamps have different bases but similar shades. PSO or Pohjoismainen Sähkö Oy was one of the leading lamp manufacturers in Finland during the middle of the 20th century. Along with companies like Taito Oy, Itsu, Idman and Orno they defined what Finnish design lamps would become. These lamps were dismanteled from the hallway/entrance and a study room of a typical 1950s house in Helsinki.
