Seattle based Mutuus Studio has forged a distinctive practice of expanding the boundaries between architecture and art with their integrated approach to design. In 2016, architect / dancer Kristen Becker and architect / musician Jim Friesz came together with artist / designer Saul Becker to form Mutuus Studio out of mutual appreciation for beautifully crafted design that doesn’t place limits on what they design. The studio name, Mutuus (moo-tis) translates from Latin to mean mutual / exchange reinforcing their studio philosophy that design is inherently collaborative and mutually beneficial. Known for their refined architecture and warm modern interiors, the inter-disciplinary firm distinguished themselves from traditional architectural practices by designing and fabricating Mutuus Made lighting, objects, and furnishings. Their lighting collection explores the human relationship with nature and the built environment, pays homage to the legacy of craft, and celebrates the beauty of authentic material selection. Their award winning hospitality, residential and art projects are intentionally unpretentious and inclusive and have been featured in publications such as New York Times, Dwell, Architectural Digest and Elle Décor.
