About the Item

F. C. Osler was a renowned British glassmaking firm, established in 1807 by Thomas Osler and his two sons, Follett and Clarkson, in Birmingham. They became famous for their exquisite crystal chandeliers and glass structures, including furniture and fountains. The company gained international recognition, particularly in India, and their creations adorned the palaces of wealthy individuals and royalty. This is an exceptional and monumental eight-foot-tall Victorian chandelier, richly constructed of finely cut and blown glass elements. The design centers on a dramatic baluster-form stem supporting multiple graduated tiers of faceted drops, prism chains, and elongated spear pendants, all terminating in a large central drop finial. The chandelier is fitted with an expansive corona of scrolling arms, each issuing candle-form lights with cut glass bobeches, creating a dazzling interplay of light and crystal. Vertical prism chains and icicle drops cascade throughout, adding both movement and brilliance. The scale, precision of cutting, and architectural presence are characteristic of the finest late 19th-century English lighting.
