About the Item

French Art Deco Pendant Chandelier by Muller Frères and Marcel Vasseur, France, 1920s. Rare and highly decorative French Art Deco pendant chandelier created in the 1920s by the celebrated glassmakers Muller Frères (Lunéville) in collaboration with master ironworker Marcel Vasseur. This exceptional lighting fixture combines finely crafted pink frosted glass shades with a bold and elegant wrought-iron structure, epitomizing the sophistication of Parisian Art Deco design. The sharply defined glass shades, produced by Muller Frères, display a delicate frosted pink hue with precise geometric contours, beautifully contrasted by the sculptural wrought-iron armature attributed to Marcel Vasseur. The chandelier is marked “FAG” for Ferronneries d’Art des Galeries, the ironwork division of La Maîtrise, the decorative arts studio of Galeries Lafayette. One glass shade is signed “Muller Frères Lunéville”, a signature model introduced in 1921 (see photo). Dimensions: Height: 35.4 in (90 cm) – can be shortened upon request Diameter: 9.85 in (25 cm) Materials: Glass and wrought iron Condition: Excellent condition Additional Information: Professionally rewired and delivered ready for installation according to your country’s standards (US, UK, EU, China, Australia, etc.). Compatible with LED bulbs. About Muller Frères (Lunéville) Founded in Lunéville, France, Muller Frères is among the most renowned glassmakers of the Art Deco period. Known for their refined acid-etched, frosted, and molded glass, the firm produced high-quality lighting and decorative objects between the 1910s and 1930s. Their work is frequently compared to that of Daum and Gallé, and today is highly sought after by collectors of French Art Deco lighting. About Marcel Vasseur Marcel Vasseur was a prominent French ironworker active during the Art Deco era. He collaborated extensively with La Maîtrise and played a major role in elevating decorative ironwork to an art form. Notably, Vasseur created the ironwork for the La Maîtrise Pavilion at the landmark 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, the event that gave the Art Deco movement its name. About La Maîtrise and Galeries Lafayette The Galeries Lafayette department store on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris opened in 1912 and quickly became one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. In 1922, it founded La Maîtrise, its applied arts studio directed by decorator Maurice Dufrêne. Conceived as a democratic counterpart to luxury ateliers, La Maîtrise produced furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics, and metalwork accessible to a wider audience, comparable to the Primavera studio at Le Printemps. The ironwork division, known as Ferronnerie d’Art des Galeries, brought together leading craftsmen such as Marcel Vasseur. Pieces produced by this workshop are often stamped “FAG”, as seen on this chandelier. This chandelier is a museum-quality example of French Art Deco lighting, ideal for collectors seeking authenticated works combining Muller Frères glass, Marcel Vasseur wrought iron, and the prestigious legacy of La Maîtrise / Galeries Lafayette.
