About the Item
A pair of unusual and exquisite French Baguès-style bronze and rock crystal fruit chandeliers. Each chandelier is composed of scrolling bronze arms issuing six candle-form lights, mounted with gilt bronze drip pans. The frames are hung with an array of large rock crystal pendants, including both clear and tinted teardrop-shaped drops in amethyst and smoky tones. Suspended floral rosettes in rock crystal adorn the arms and upper branches, creating a repeating decorative element throughout the structure.
Clusters of grapes in amethyst, rose quartz, and deep garnet-colored crystal hang from the lower section of the frames, alternating with elongated rock crystal drops. These fruit-form ornaments are carefully strung to imitate bunches of grapes and are placed at intervals around the chandelier’s circumference. The combination of clear, colored, and fruit-shaped crystal forms a varied decorative scheme. The arms and central stem are further mounted with gilded leaves and a central faceted amethyst-colored rock crystal knop.
The chandeliers follow the Baguès tradition of combining wrought bronze structures with naturalistic crystal ornamentation. The use of colored crystals in fruit clusters and large teardrop pendants is a characteristic design feature associated with this style.
