About the Item

Original lighting installation - Stabwerkkugelleuchten from prestigious buildings of the former GDR. The modular system was designed for the 1976 opening of the‚ Palast der Republik‘ in East Berlin. More than 1000 glass spheres were here installed. The system was later also used in other representative buildings in East Germany and socialist countries worldwide. The design is by Peter Rockel. Offered is a unique module of 2 lamp holders with glass balls, linkages and module parts in excellent condition. The lighting installation represents outstanding and internationally renowned East German design. Thanks to its flexible modular concept, the lighting system can be adapted to various spatial structures. The combination of chrome-plated steel, handcrafted glass spheres, and brilliant light creates a festive and representative atmosphere. After the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 the lighting system and many other East German design items fell into oblivion or got lost. It was only rediscovered in recent years. An excellent example was the lighting installation that was presented in the German pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2010, a major contemporary art exhibition. Another installation has been installed in the permanent Berlin exhibition in the Humboldt-Forum in Berlin-Mitte. The structural components of the lighting system are made of chrome-plated steel connected to a node element made of aluminum. This element connects suspension, glass spheres and other structural elements. The glass spheres are mouth-blown with a diameter of approximately 10 inches. The components can be freely combined according to different environments and personal tastes. They can be arranged like steps or rows or can be individually installed. Either way they form a unique and impressive focal point in the room. All components are professionally cleaned and shine in the splendor of new condition. At the same time, they bear the patina of an almost fifty-year-old original. The module is installed and wired. It is supplied with one ceiling suspensions that carries the power supply. Installation, technical inspection prior to commissioning and commissioning must be carried out by a licensed specialist for electrical work. The glass globes are supplied disassembled. The installation is ready for transport and can either be picked up or shipped. For transport, if necessary, there is contact with an art transportation company that ships worldwide. Additional shipping costs are based on the shipping address and are to be paid by the buyer.
