About the Item

A palatial and large antique Russian Neoclassical gilt bronze and crystal chandelier. The chandelier is composed of multiple tiers, suspended from a gilt bronze corona surmounted by a crown of crystal prisms. From the upper section descend swags of faceted crystal beads, terminating in elongated drops. The central tier supports twelve candle-form lights arranged in a circular pattern, each mounted on scrolling gilt bronze branches with beaded crystal chains draped from the bobeches. Beneath, further concentric rows of faceted crystal prisms form cascading tiers, finishing in a spherical pendant at the base. The chandelier’s gilt bronze elements are enriched with neoclassical detailing, including rosettes and decorative mounts that join the arms and drapery supports. The design continues downward with alternating rings of crystal drops and garlands, each level diminishing in diameter to create a cascading profile. The candle-form lights are balanced with long crystal prisms suspended below each arm, while strands of graduated faceted beads connect the arms to the central frame. The lower structure consists of tiered crystal prisms encircling gilt bronze bands, arranged in successive layers that form a dense and reflective lower basket. A large faceted ball pendant completes the composition at the underside, reinforcing the chandelier’s vertical emphasis and monumental scale. This chandelier is a product of Russian neoclassical design, combining the structural precision of gilt bronze with the brilliance of hand-cut crystal. Such works were favored in Russian aristocratic and Imperial interiors during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when neoclassicism dominated architectural and decorative arts.
