Rare Large Art Nouveau Crystal Chandelier, the Early 1900s

About the Item

A beautiful, large chandelier with an Art Nouveau character, made circa 1900. It combines the tradition of using light prisms, together with a unique form. The upper shade of anthracite colored smoke glass, its decoration is made of lens glass and consists of eight large, flattened eyelets with an amber colored rim. The rings go around the entire lampshade, forming a frieze. On the edge of the shade there is a brass strip, to which a curtain of beads has been attached. The lamp has two light sources inside the shade and an assembly chain with ornamented mesh. This is an unusual chandelier with an interesting, decorative form. A rare solution. Made with artistic glass techniques. This lamp gives unique lighting effects, because the glass shade is translucent, interestingly refract the light of the lens in the thickness of the glass. A garland of crystals creates a curtain at the same time, but also illuminates and reflects prisms with light that shimmers with colors and brilliance. A richly decorated chandelier made entirely of glass. Smooth lines. Due to the fact that some icicles are longer and finished with prisms and others shorter with an amber crystal, the surface of the lamp seems to be wavy. The technique of reflecting the light source with the help of a prism, mirrors, slides, crystals and gilded and silver-plated surfaces was taken from baroque candle sconces, which with their rich, shiny decoration intensified the candlelight. The lamp is characterized by a combination of a modern, interesting form and the Art Nouveau character of the whole. Height adjustment possible by shortening the chain links.
