About the Item

Here you are shown the Santa Ana Ceramic Ceiling Lamp with EU wiring accessibility, designed in 1983 by Matteo Thun. The Lamp is numbered and does not include the bulb. Born 1952 in Bolzano, Italy. Matteo Thun studies under Oskar Kokoschka at the Salzburg Academy of Architectural, and receives a doctorate in Florence in 1975 with Adolfo Natalini. In 1978, he moves to Milan and becomes acquainted with Ettore Sottsass and starts working in his studio. Co-founding member in 1981 of Memphis Group, the design movement that so shaped events in the Eighties. The Vienna academy for Applied Arts appoints him to the Chair of Product Design and Ceramics in 1982. Terminates his work with Memphis and founds his own Studio Matteo Thun in Milan in 1984. Awarded three times the Compasso d’Oro for good design. Creative director from 1990 until 1993 for Swatch. Side Hotel Hamburg, Hotel of the year 2001. Gala spa award, vigilius mountain resort 2004. New look at the façade of “palazzo del cinema” during 61st Venice film festival, September 2004 and billboard. Selected for "Compasso d’Oro" 2004 design prize for “Girly” by Catalano. Inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, December 2004. Memphis Milano is the great cultural phenomenon of the 1980s that revolutionized creative and commercial logics in design. Born from the idea of Ettore Sottsass and a group of young designers and architects, in Milan, coupled in the years by famous designers from the international scene, Memphis turned upside down all of the existing parameters on living. Ettore Sottsass as the backbone of the group, design gained a new concept and expression through new shapes, materials and patterns, expanding the creative limits of the industry. Memphis became a symbol of New Design. Its influence is still clear in various sectors of production and beyond.
