About the Item

Scandinavian Modern "Le Louvre" pendant by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen. The spherical "PH Louvre" consists of a matt powder-coated metal and a polished aluminum frame. Designed in 1957. This particular lamp has been hanging In a Swedish west coast church since it opened 1966. The lamp has a 100% glare-free light - A design principle that the designer took quite seriously, and which is visible in almost all of Henningsen designs. This means, in short, that you will never be able to sit and look directly into the light source - regardless of height or angle. Matte painted undersides and glossy top surfaces result in attractive reflection, creating uniform light distribution around the fixture. When the light is switched on, the top portion is illuminated while the bottom part remains dark. Its impressive scale and clean geometric lines creates a stunning focal point of incomparable refinement. PH Louvre achieves this through the cunning geometric ball construction. Bulb: 100-300w, E27 socket This suspension lamps a sculptural value even when it is off - An absolutely fantastic addition to the room that needs something a little special.

Poul Henningsen Ph Louvre Pendant
By Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen
Located in Berkeley, CA
The fixture provides 100% glare-free light. The geometrical, spherical design is based on the principle of illuminating all surfaces at the same angle. This ensures uniform light around the fixture, illuminating both walls and ceiling. Matte painted undersurfaces and glossy top surfaces result in an attractive reflection of the diffused light, creating uniform light distribution around the fixture. Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system during 1925/1926. The first lights using the system were designed for an exhibition in Paris. His work with Louis Poulsen continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to create glare-free lighting; aiming to direct light where it was most needed, and creating soft shadows while using incandescent bulbs as a light source. PH Louvre...
