About the Item
Chandeliers have often been used as decorative focal points for rooms since the 20th century. In Scandinavian mid-century design, where interior lighting is of particular importance, designers managed to master the art of light without blinding or crushing space perception.
This chandelier is in the so-called candle style, originating in the traditional candelabra, with upward facing lightbulbs and multiple arms, usually arranged symmetrically. Here, the six arms are identical and symmetrical, holding up the shades. Like most Scandinavian light fixtures of the era, this chandelier assumes a more minimalist design that does not contain prisms and illuminates a room with direct light from the lampshades. This model is equipped with translucent glass covering each lamp. The cups are shaped like a torch, with a long, red lacquered metal neck, and a cup on top with ribbed glass and a gilded edge. The chandelier’s brass structure is decorative in a simple way. The curling arms holding the shades are the most distinctive elements, giving the design a dynamic look.
The subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early-20th century art movements and the simple lines deriving from the inter-war art movements give this chandelier its elegance. The brilliant deep red colour and elegant flowing lines of this brass design embody 1960s Scandinavian design.
