Murano handblown glass sphere pendant with amber Murrine pattern. Brass fitting and ceiling rose. Exudes a lovely diffused light.
Very good vintage condition.
Murrine (or murrina) is a Venetian glassmaking technique where colored patterns or images are created within a glass cane, then sliced into thin cross-sections (murrine) that reveal the design, often resembling flowers, stars, or intricate patterns, famously used in Millefiori glassware to add vibrant, detailed decoration to glass. Here an amber pattern has been created and then scattered and picked up by a hot glass bubble, becoming embedded in the surface for a warm and stunning decorative effect.
