About the Item
Pendant light 'AMA 500' with brass details by Aino Aalto, designed 1941. This piece was made by Valaistustyö of Finland.
The design features an aluminium shade painted in old white (warm tone) with delicate brass details. The open shade provides good light downwards, as well as a small amount upwards which picks out the brass detail at the top; this simple design works nicely hanging low over a table and the brass trim creates a small tier of light diffusion. A good example of Nordic design.
We estimate this piece to have been made late mid-20th century; it is in good original condition with a nicely aged appearance. There are minor signs of wear including paint losses - mainly to the inside top around the lampholder, which is rarely seen in use - minor marks and a little movement in the line of brass trim. The top of the light shows the maker's stamp and model number.
Wiring
The wiring is original and we advise it is replaced in the country of install. The original bulb-holder takes a single E27 bulb (large screw fitting), and we recommend low heat models to protect the fixture for the future.
